When purchasing bone china from a manufacturer, buyers should be mindful of the materials used and the documentation provided to ensure quality and durability. Bone china is typically made from a combination of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, which are fired at high temperatures to achieve its signature strength and translucency. Requesting information about the composition of the materials used can help buyers determine the quality of the product.
In addition to material composition, buyers should also ask for test documentation that verifies the durability and safety of the bone china. This may include reports on thermal shock resistance, which measures the ability of the porcelain to withstand sudden temperature changes without cracking or breaking. Such tests are crucial, especially for products intended for use in commercial settings where exposure to extreme temperatures is common.
Another important aspect to consider is the presence of lead and other heavy metals in the glaze. Reputable manufacturers should provide documentation confirming that their products are free from harmful substances, ensuring they are safe for use in both home and professional environments. Buyers should also request certificates of compliance with international standards, such as ISO or FDA regulations, which further validate the quality and safety of the bone china.
Lastly, buyers should inquire about the manufacturer's quality control processes and any additional certifications they may hold. This information can provide peace of mind and help buyers make informed decisions when selecting bone china for their needs.
